I think it's important to remember that Harley riders aren't really worried about horsepower as much as they are decibel level. They want whatever will wake as many people up after they get done with their nightly whack off session with all the other Harley bros.
VxNemesis Prieš 20 val
Then you look at ducati, same displacement, V architecture and yet 200hp.

In summary: Because Harley's design philosophy has not been updated in nearly a century. I figured that would be the case before watching this video, and indeed no surprise. I can understand it actually, people are out there for nostalgia, not for performance. Their idea of a good time isn't defined by how fast it goes. Problem with this though is that those people will die, or at least quit motorcycling, soon, many already have. Their target audience is old farts, and their nostalgia will have far less appeal to younger generations. They've tried to update their product line, but anyone interested in such things isn't interested in a Harley. Hence I wouldn't be surprised if Harley's days are just as numbered as their target audience's.

Here is where I belive Harley went wrong with their try on a modern engine: 1: To expensive and over engineered. 2: Way to proud that the Revolution engine was "co-developed" with Porsche. 3: Aimed at the wrong audience.

I have a 2017 Yamaha R3, fun as hell to ride but by no means is a speed demon. The bike is a stock 321cc, and I gapped a 2012 96ci Harley (almost 5x the displacement) from a dig and from a roll. I am 100% a made in USA guy, but I will NEVER own a Harley Davidson.

After 35yrs of being over the tank I was given a Victory Octane for a weekend. "We just want your opinion, Paul". Around 30 of us went a couple of hundred miles up the coast for the weekend. From the shop we rode 20kms to the meet point, my wife took 1 look at my smile and knew we were buying a new bike. Mine came out of the crate the day Polaris made the announcement.

I don't think the V-Rod failed because of its modernized engine. It failed because they decided to make the entire bike a 2 wheeled expression of the "how do you do fellow kids?" meme. The Indian bike is what the V-Rod project should have been.

How is the Scout with a rider that's tall and heavy? Sounds like it has the power but does it Carry the weight? I'm currently riding a road King and have had it about 5 years. Love the bike, handles great for me. I can through it around as good or better than any bike I've ever ridden.the power is ok but sure you can never have enough power. I think if i was going to buy another bike I'd rather do up the one i already have. 15 or 20 grand on my engine and clutch and i would be very happy

Why dont harley do like the suzuki bandit oil cooled, so looks like air cooled but revs to ~14k as it has pressureized oil cooling spays the back of pistons and cams etc with oil from jets, they could even replace the push rod pipes with pipes for the oil coolign as needs big volusme of oil..

This is a very enlightening video. I'd never understood Harleys. They might be trying to sell old fashioned motorbikes, but I couldn't understand why they had never used modern improvements. Why all of their bikes just seem so terrible on paper. I never considered that some of these seemingly inconsequential differences like oil is precisely what made the performance. I had certainly never considered that Harley might have tried a modern bike and completely failed. I still can't understand why people want a Harley, mind. I would pay any price of inconvenience to keep my ZX6R and Harleys seem the complete opposite with just as much inconvenience. But at least I understand why Harleys aren't good on paper, and now assume that they have actually made progress at least where they are free to improve. Though I would still argue that if you're looking for progress on all fronts then a sports bike is what you're looking at, and that market is certainly booming.

I ride a Harley sporty. I personally ride it for the nostalgia. If I needed high rpm short stroke hp id go for a street/sport bike. But it's just my personal preference. My buddy Just bought a scout bobber and it's a great bike. Well balanced and fun to ride although I didn't get that feeling of taming an angry bull when i was on it as the power delivery is much more smoother. Either way I love this video as its production quality is simply unbelievable 👌❤

Orrrrr..... You could buy an inline 4 cylinder Japanese bike that makes twice that power. And is safer. And more comfortable. And cheaper. You do you though.
JETZcorp Prieš 17 dienų
Another point with the undersquare and oversquare thing. A small bore and a long stroke leads to a small combustion chamber, which means small valves. Small valves support great intake velocity which is good at filling the cylinder and atomizing fuel at low revs, whereas large valve area is needed to support the sheer bulk flow of high RPM running. A Harley can mechanically get away with revving quite a bit higher than they do, but it won't take too long for the small-bore 2-valve head to simply run out of breath. But really, the bore/stroke ratio thing is a big overblown anyway. Most people who talk about this stuff might be quite surprised to find out that most of the big slow-thunder muscle car engines had big bores and short strokes, whereas some of the highest-revving car engines have comparatively long strokes. For example, the 9,000rpm VTEC-kicking king of rev, the Honda B18C out of the Integra Type R, is actually undersquare and has a stroke just 1.7mm shorter than a 350 Chevy. Turns out, it doesn't really matter all that much until you REALLY start revving to the absolute moon, which is precisely what most modern motorcycles (but almost no cars ever) do.
