Is the Yamaha Ténéré 700 Really So Special?

Too portly, too big, too gimmicky, too…well, everything. Adventure bikes have gotten out of hand. Yamaha wants to change that by offering something just right - nothing more, nothing less.

Damn you! I was hoping for a "so so" review lol. It really does look like the perfect cross breed for long distance riding. Now I just have to refrain from taking one on a test ride.

Well everybody says its a great review so I'm not going to repeat it. I'm torn now between Tenere 700 and Tracer 9. I know two different bikes Tenere more adventure, Tracer 9 more road orientated. But maybe having Tenere would open new horizons for me?

I really thought this bike was lighter, like a almost real enduro dirtbike, a ktm 690 weights like 70kg less...that’s a lot of difference

I'll never buy anything Yamaha again, New V-Star 1300 misfire at low RPM, warranty is a joke. I sold it for 1/4 of new price and was happy to get rid of it. The windshield is a joke also. It required common sense to stop the buffeting from knocking my head around. The design managers and engineers should have been fired

Tell your friends in the pub, that your adventure bike has 160 horsepower, "wooooww", tell them that the sprocket on your bike is on higher position than on other bikes, and that is the reason for..... all on toilet...

OK. Ryan presents a good case for this bike, and also shows us what can be done with it... to the limit of his ability, that is. If you want to see this bike pushed to more extremes, check out this demonstration by Pol Tarrés (trial specialist): ltpost.info/down/l3zadXvJnI2mlpc/vaizdo-ra-as.html And report back here: how convinced are you of this bike's "off road" potential?

Well...not that perfect, I was out with my buddy on his 3-month-old T7, he dropped the bike and it wasn't that hard of a drop and the muffler hanger bent the rear subframe, the rear subframe is welded on the bike not bolted so the bike was totaled, I put my money back in the bank when you can drop your bike and total it, I don't think it's for me.

Now i know why it's so hard to wheelie, it actually feel like its fighting you as you power on! Yet if you preload before a lip or bump in the road itll come up with ease. Also found handle bar position compounds this.

I dunno if you're in any way musically-inclined, but Yamaha makes some pretty kick ass value-for-money guitars as well. Their acoustic guitars are extremely nice, and their electrics are far better than their conventional appearance would lead you to believe. I have an FS-310 acoustic that cost me ~$300 CAD, and the fret-work on that guitar is absolutely stunning. I've seen acoustics which cost 4-5x as much, but haven't had as much attention paid to the fret-ends. Don't get me wrong... A Yamaha will never have the feel or provenance of a good Jackson or Charvel, but they're great for what they are. What I consider to be the "acceptable bottom" for giggable Jacksons is around-about $700 CAD. My "acceptable bottom" for a road-worthy Yamaha is around $500. Do the math lol. Good Jacksons have some extra mojo, but it's all about how much that mojo is worth to you. They each have their place, depending on what you're looking for.

From what I have been able to learn about the T7 is may be the one bike which covers most of my riding requirements. But all the reviews are over looking something which is very important to me and that is serviceability. I am hearing rumors that to service the valve shims, the engine must be removed. Is there any truth to this? If it is, please no comments about "yes by it's only required every 25,000 mile"? I don't care if I only have to do it at 100,000 miles. The dealer where I live at this point won't give me a straight answer and at this point they don't have enough experience since they have only sold but a few. So someone please, tell me this is not the case.
