Riding in hot, stuffy riding gear is one of the worst aspects of motorcycling in the summer. There’s gotta be a better way...

Its normal to have 40 degree Celsius in Indonesia, and most of our rider rather sacrifice their skin if accidents happen, and die from heat, luckily our traffic jam are very bad so we only got 30km per hour on average

Hey Ryan! Amazing videos. I was wondering: my dad (old time rider) says that nothing beats leather clothes because they'll always keep your bones in place (or the best among the options). What would you do if you want to have both crashing protection and skidding?

I'm a little confused. You've featured the Icon Mesh AF on at least two videos now, and I still can't tell if you recommend it. Sometimes sarcasm eludes me. I bought one today because I thought you recommended it another video.

I saw a fellow taking a road trip on his Gold Wing a few summers ago. He was clad in shorts, possibly swim trunks, and flip flops and no shirt. All I could do was wish him luck as he got on the interstate and headed south.

If i see a Z87 sticker i aint buying it. OSHA pounded this shit into my head, if its rated Z87 or better itll be marked as such on the damn frame, as part of the plastic or etched in the metal arms.

That armor looks good, interested to see that no dual sporting gear for mentioned. Dual sport jackets are often mesh everywhere you dont need slide protection, i run a dry rider and its been great, handles a good old fall in the dirt and cool enough even in out back Australian heat. (When riding). Colour plays a huge role in staying cool especially in those slow speed conditions like single track or traffic. Light greys and whites are the go. Dual sport helmets also have additional ventilation. Love your videos, think i might see if I can find those pants, see if they are stretchie enough to let me get on my bike.

I wear a HWK air mesh jacket in the texas summer.. if you wear a compression/moisture wicking shirt ("under armor") under any vented jackets (*NOT* a water soaking cotton t shirt) you actually cool far better.

Y'all think I could wear the compression shirt and then a very heavy weight leather jacket(not a riding jacket) for abrasion protection? Would this be the same protection as wearing a riding jacket?
Johnalogue Prieš 3 mėnesius
That not-jacket temps me despite being of the "well, I wouldn't want to go out with inadequate protection" mindset. You talked me into it but I'm sure it's noticeably less safe than a jacket, right?

If the elbow wasn't one inch off the edge of the D3O this could have been a great light armour. Depending on a persons arm the D3O can fall off the elbow altogether leaving you completely exposed. Not the smartest design ever is it?

I don’t like to nitpick (I’m lying) but Icon could well get their jacket CE approved: “(17092) Classification C covers garments such as the mesh under-suits that have impact protection for off-road riding.” In fact, if they want to sell in the UK or EU I think they must get it certified. I have a similar jacket called the KNOX action shirt but it has CE armour but no abrasion protection. I stopped using it because I found the much better Bull-it airflow suit made entirely of covec (LC polymer) with similar properties to aramid. I ride in Southern Vietnam (tropical weather all year round) so I need good ventilation. Unfortunately, single layer rider jeans, although extremely popular, aren’t very protective. Layering does get hot but not too bad if the ventilation is adequate. Motocap has shown that single layer clothing made of anything (except leather) isn’t any good at impact abrasion. Have you seen single layer jeans passing 13595 level 2 or even the more lenient EN17092 AAA? I haven’t. I’ve got layered jeans PMJ (17092 AAA level, 13595 level 1) and in the tropics they are just fine as long as you keep moving. In my opinion, gear manufacturers are being dishonest that single layer textiles are especially protective. Physics, backed up by testing, shows us that it can’t be. You need one layer to handle the impact, then another to handle the slide. Just look at GP suits or even much older leather suits. They almost always have multiple layers at the impact zones. That being said, I just wish people would wear some protective gear beyond a helmet. Where I live, 99.999% are squids.
