What happens when you tell a bunch of car designers to go build a motorcycle? Well, this. The Honda PC800 Pacific Coast. Overlooked genius or just another Failblog entry?

Brilliant report , great video, Ryan, you’re the master, I’m looking forward to your first full length movie...this Honda is not my cup of tea but it certainly introduced or reinterpreted a lot of ideas which we can see still on a lot of modern bikes, usually big ones, built in crash protection, enclosed engine , improved maintenance and luggage capacity., in hindsight it doesn’t seem so outlandish just slightly out of fashion.

I kind of wish Honda went back to its successor with a nx engine since Honda ended production of the pan European, the gold wing is just not the same and way to expensive

If to disregard the attempt to win over car drivers, this bike was quite an exercise of ingenuity. Maybe it is quite useless in practice, but I was way impressed by those suspension changing brakes.

The reason why car drivers won't jump ship is cause us car drivers are terrified of Motorcycles, we all know of a guy who crashed on one and has life altering complications cause of it. I know a guy, he died 10 years later, and it was a painful 10 years, peeing through a catheter and lots of meds and surgery. The best way we can alleviate traffic is through Public Transit and Bicycle infrastructure funding, not get everyone on dangerous 2 wheeled death traps

The 70 km aka 44 mph speed limit on the hwy is not a joke. Just the most infuriating thing. Looks like the congestion problem would be solved by increasing speed limits so vehicles could actually move to the destination faster.

Burgman Keith Prieš 10 dienų
What? Who told you that? They were never designed for women! Not unless they were at least 5'10" tall which is what you have to be if you don't want to have to tippy toe when you put your feet down and a stop light. And a scooter has step through area and PC800 does not. Don't like a scooter to me.

Idea is great but regulations aren't. If you still need to pass motorcycle driving license on regular motorcycle, why on earth would you even consider spending your time and money to ride that? Yes, in a long run you will save lots of time on filtering traffic and parking, but even costs aside, taking time-consuming driving lessons is just too much for many of us. This is why we see so many 50cc or 125cc scooters riding all year long and we would see many of such Honda's too if people would be able to operate them with their standard car license. Will that ever happen? I don't think so.

I love that bike... Too bad I feel too old (74 & 2 cancers latter) to make my dream come true i.e. get a used Pacific Coast & ride it from the West Coast (Seattle?) to Miami FL at a reasonable pace: 3300 miles, let say in two to three weeks so to enjoy the trip & visit fun places along the way... Alone on that beauty, I swear I can carry all the stuff I would have needed in the trunk + a backpack strapped on the passenger seat :) Often, I've asked around for another person with the same dream, but they all had bad excuses not to do it...

I've owned two of them, both bright red 1990's at two different times. It's a beautiful bike, terrific to just ride, quiet, and the bodywork does a great job of protecting the rider and passenger. The body panels can be a pain and take care and patience to remove and replace. Lots of ardent fan support, so you are not alone if you have a problem. It's a cult bike for sure and worthy of all the attention a 30-year-old sophisticated motorcycle garners.

Burgman Keith
Burgman Keith Prieš 7 dienų
@EnduroEspresso I am not saying that the PC800 is the best handling bike ever made in all of motorcycling history, all I am saying is that it handles very well. At least mine, not having moped forks on it, handles just fine. And at 650 lbs there are very many lighter bikes on the market but that is not a lot for a touring machine. At least not to me. So if a fine, wonderful to ride good solid machine is underwhelming to you then that is just fine by me. I bought this bike 25 years ago to please me- no one else. I don't give a rat's ass what anyone- including you- thinks about it. I feel much better now. Do you?
EnduroEspresso Prieš 7 dienų
@Burgman Keith there is nothing wrong with being passionate about something which has served you well. im just trolling you, burger. having a little internet fun. there is nothing "wrong" with the pc800. but like i said, in my opinion, i have ridden better handling, lighter motorcycles. so when i "compare" the pc to other bikes its underwhelming "in my opinon". does that make you feel better now?
Burgman Keith
Burgman Keith Prieš 10 dienų

Make it look clean enough to be a non running clay model (like BMW) ., but not drawn on an etch a sketch (like BMW)., & stop covering up the entire engine.(like the gold wing). & Stop letting the press try to pigeon hole it into some predetermined category, "they invented". Opp's guess we would end up with adventure touring !., Ok Honda never mind what I said.... Good work !... Wait ? what was this video about anyway?

Burgman Keith
Burgman Keith Prieš 18 dienų
@Maciej Jan Długosz No problem. Yes, it does warm up quick as there is limited air flow on a PC. But as long as you are moving a long or as long as your fan is working the bike will not overheat. The Honda engineers, as usual, knew what they were doing when they built this bike.

@Burgman Keith I apologise. I haven't overheated my bike but never liked to ride it in city due to fan noise and very quick temperature raising.
Burgman Keith
Burgman Keith Prieš 18 dienų
Wrong. They're water cooled and have forced air through the radiator by fan when the temps get up. Mine has never overheated once in the 25 years that I owned it. Not even in 100+ temps in stop and go traffic.
