Definitely use ethanol free gasoline or ,if not available, remove the ethanol from the gasoline with the water methodology (add water, wait 24h, remove the water/ethanol that sits at the bottom of the container) before filling your bike for the winter.

Well, tis was a fine vid. Many years ago I put soem BelAdd into my fuel tank for the winter, but the bike was very difficult to start, and didn't want to idle. I used it mainly for carburettor preservation, as I was too lazy to drain the fuel out for the winter. But I will never add such crap again.

Wow. Bike sat all Winter. Looks that clean. And cranks that fast. I have used Lucas Ethanol Treatment in mine. Been using it for years in several motorcycles. Now it's getting harder to find. And really expensive at Auto Parts stores. Lately I have been going to Tractor Supply. And getting the Stabil 360. 1 Ounce per 5 Gallons. Or in the case of my 2018 Sportster 1200, 1 Ounce per Tank (4.5G). My bike may sit for a week or 2 at a time. Depending on weather. I live in NJ.

Sta-Bil makes another produce called Sta-Bil 360. It is advertised as both a fuel stabilizer and as "Ethanol Treatment" (prevents corrosion and ethanol damage). I would be interested in how it would perform in your tests.

I have not ever used fuel stabilizer, and my bikes, lawn mower, chain saw etc have always started fine in the spring. I either leave the tank full to the brim (bikes) or empty/burn off gas from the fuel system (lawn mower etc). Little to no air sitting over a pool of gasoline in the tank = little to no water vapor dissolving in fuel.

Stabilizers are a band-aid. Check out Aspen fuels, I started using this stuff in generators and welders, just got on a bike so we'll see next spring. I buy Aspen 4 at Carter Honda in 5L containers, pricey AF but you just need a litre in there, and no pump gas of course. Was developed for emergency services gear, fire pumps etc, you get what you pay for in this case.

I believe in the fuel stabilization properties of 2-stroke oil. I have personally let a bike sit for 5 years with ethanol premix in the tank, and it still ran nicely and the rubber crank seals were a-ok. It also stops rust in steel tanks by making everything oily. A few years ago we went riding with 11-year-old gas in a Maico 440, and that resulted in it being a bit down on power in the midrange and some weirdness in the throttle response. 11 YEARS!! Only once have I had gas so old that the bike was unrideable, from a can that the old man included with another Maico. I don't even want to think about how old that must have been. Stock gas!

one thing i love and have used with grate success is called mechanic in a bottle sold at Home Depot that stuff will keep gas usable for at least 2 years protects components from ethanol and will even revitalize old gasoline no idea how it dose this but it does also i have found in carbureted applications that if you can get an engine to run long enough to pull in the mechanic in a bottle into the carburetor it will dissolve all the varnish and even unplug tiny ports with in 24-48 hr its about $5 for 8 oz and is 2 oz to a gallon kind of pricey but it always works for me

I dunno, I feel there is something missing. I have tried various brands myself in the past and the only one that I have tried that doesn't have me giving an overhaul to the fuel system every spring is Seafoam. Usually one can in the tank, one last carb fill up and run dry before storage does the trick. Top off the tank and closing the breather and it's good for the winter.

Just consider the little incidentals in this video like the creepy horror movie music and its murder mystery tropes...For a look at fuel additives? That's some next level Cannes Film Festival finesse there. If Ryan and Aneesh aren't struggling to find enough spots to stow all their awards, then something's wrong.

Ethanol gas is BAD. It takes only a little over a month for the gasoline and ethanol to start to separate. Remember, ethanol; is alcohol. You might as well pour a bottle of scotch in your gas tank. Alcohol is WATER based, while gasoline is PETROLEUM based. In short, they simply do not mix. Leaving ethanol gas in your tank for more than a month is just asking for it, and guarantee you will get it. None of these "stabilizers" will do anything. Guaranteed. Yes some will make the problem worse. NEVER store you bike with fuel in the tank whether it is real gasoline (or petrol, as they call it in the UK) or ethanol. Even real gasoline will not last several months. It does not break down like an ethanol/gasoline mix, but the liquid part of the gasoline evaporates and leaves the gum and varnish behind, making a real mess. Fortunately I don't live in a place where I have to store bikes for months. But I do store some of them for a while, because I have six, and just can't ride all of them often enough. There are two ways to deal with this (my bikes are all carbureted, which makes things a lot easier) After gas has been a motorcycle tank for a month, I drain it out and pour it in my car. Then I take a gas can full of new gas and pour it in. I start the bike up and let it run long enough to burn up the old gas in the carb. Bike is now good for another month. I like to start my bikes up every once in a while, even if I'm not going to ride them. I don't believe an engine should sit there for an extended time without being ran. Parts that are designed to be moved should be moved. Doing it this way assures you have good gas in your bike so you can hop on it and ride it at a moments notice. There is another way if you are pretty sure you are not going to be riding it for some time. Here in the U.S. we can get some stuff called TruFuel. I'm not really sure what it is exactly, other than it is super expensive ($20 a gallon) and does not contain ethanol. It also has a lifespan of 2 years. I do know that naptha is one of it's ingredients, and it has an octane rating of about 95. And bikes run fine on it. Way too expensive to actually use for riding, but it makes a great storage fuel. But to use it, you have to COMPLETELY drain your fuel system, and that means removing the tank and turning it upside down. It's the only way to get ALL the fuel out of it, and even a tiny amount of ethanol will do a major amount of damage. Once the tank is COMPLETELY empty, put it back on the bike, pour in a gallon of TruFuel, start the bike, and let it run for about 15 minutes. That's long enough to remove all the ethanol/gas/petrol from the carburetors/fuel lines/and EFI systems. TruFuel will NOT damage the fuel system, and will allow you to start the bike up from time to time. When it comes time to go riding again, just finish filling up the tank with whatever you use for fuel. Just don't leave it in there for more than a month. I have a 5 gallon gas can, and just about every time I put gas in my car, I first drain the gas out of a bike, pour it in the car, then take the gas can to the station with me and refill it with gas. When I get back home, I pour that new gas into the bike I drained the old gas out of. Not that big of a deal if you can remember to do it when you know you are going to the gas station anyway.
