Me trying to get into motorcycling, asking my friend about what cheap starter bike to get: Him: "Don't buy a project. You want something that runs so you can become a good rider in the first year rather than a good mechanic." Me: "What about this 2002 GZ250, seller says it doesn't run but doesn't say why. But it's only $500" Him: "BUY THAT! No matter what's wrong with it, fixing it won't be hard. Even if you have to rebuild the engine, which is unlikely." Me: [contacts seller, waiting for response]

Thanks so much! Awesome as always. I have a ‘76 KZ400 that starts and runs indeed. The problem is it runs like crap and shakes like hell. BUT sometimes all of a sudden it runs like a dream just to run again poorly after some time. I have checked valve clearence, chain tension, cleaned the whole carbs, checked the mixture and ignition timing, all within spec. I think its not related to temperature either. Any clue?

So was the blacked out bit where the camera guy told you to turn the kill switch on? Also, am I the only one that noticed the spark plug moving when you were kicking it over to check for spark (about 57 seconds)? A plug that loose could be part of why it wouldn't start..... BTW: If you haven't seen carbs that carb cleaner and compressed air won't clean out you haven't seen many. Some of the folks on the forums I'm on have had to soak theirs in an ultrasonic cleaner multiple times (not to mention extracting those pressed in jets to clean out the deposits behind them) before theirs worked properly.

The host, the production quality, the content, as many others have said, are top notch! I just love it all and wish I had discovered this long ago. Can anyone tell me or point me to more information about this creator. I am just curious how he started, how he continues this and is this a one man show or a huge production crew now? Very well done and very much look forward to more content.

The 5th element is... Timing! Less likely if it was running before, but some old bikes has push rods or just a bad tensioner for the timing chain. Some bikes (Ducati?) Still use timing belt! (It's lighter...)

About the sparke Some motersycles wont run without a battery that can provide the spark So if you use the kickstarter without a battery it won’t spark

1 remark. Do Not crank it with 15 year old goo oil in the cranckcase. Or when buying do the test for spark and compression. Then: Drain old goo. Put in diesel. Slosh the bike. Leave overnight. Drain diesel. Put in cheapest engine oil with a correct viscosity and some rathing. Crank a couple of times. (Disperse the new enigne oil trough the block. Let the new engine oil break in deposits and buildups) Start with Ryans steps Drive 100km. Do oil chance with desired quality oil and filter.

For an engine that's been neglected, i like to give it a bit of oil down the spark plug hole before cranking. Not a whole lot, just lubricate the piston rings while the engine's own oil starts flowing again

I have one of those bikes in my garage, waiting to be refurbished. nice work! the one thing that has most recently given me fits is doing a voltage drop test on the ignition system. I was getting a 12 volt reading...... ok, so it has been 15 years since I did this last. I wanted to see .2 volts or maybe even zero..... cleaned and replaced some connectors and now it has spark. on to the carbs.

As long as you've got the spark plugs out anyway, spray a generous amount of WD-40 into the cylinder to free stuck rings. Preferably the day before trying to turn the motor over.
